3 Questions for… Raiza Carrera, Bartender, Barcelona, Spain
Raiza Carrera is originally from Perú and started at the age of 16 years in a nightclub doing extras on weekends, while finishing school.
When she finished, she went to an audiovisual university, until she ran into the bar again and decided to combine it with the university. She did a course on cocktails, until she decided to travel and dedicate herself professionally to this.
First she moved to Buenos Aires and then to Barcelona. Raiza had the opportunity to work in her favourite bars and learned a lot from the different types of clients and colleagues. Currently she lives in Barcelona and works in a new opening.
We were happy to ask her our three questions…
Name the coolest location where you ever mixed a drink.
The coolest location It would be in a boat in one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen in Formentera with friends watching a magical sunset.
What is your favourite drink to mix and which drink do you like best?
If you mean cocktail, I think it depends on my mood, but one of my favorite cocktails would be La última palabra or closing argument in english.
And my favorite spirit although it sounds cliché, it is mezcal. I ended up falling in love with this distillate when I had the opportunity to go to Oaxaca and see up close the entire process and the rituals that go into it.
What is more important in your job: being the creative head or a „show star“?
“I’m an instant star just add water and stir.” David Bowie (hugh fan).
Hospitality is the key, personality mark the difference, being passionate and creative comes with learning and preparation. if you like what you do of course. I always say that my profession is one of the loves of my life. I really like what I do I don’t have a style in particular I’m only passionately curious.
